EXCEL: Excellence in Home Education
believes that parents/guardians are ultimately responsible for a student’s education. Therefore,
there are certain responsibilities that are under parental supervision.
-
-
Discipline of the student: EXCEL provides general guidelines for conduct and behavior, and each teacher will
have specific guidelines that will apply to students while they are in his/her classroom.
Should a problem arise concerning any guidelines, parents will be notified to take care of the problem. A conduct notice will be delivered to the parent that must be acknowledged and returned to the teacher with
a corrective course of action outlined. Please note: Students may be suspended or expelled from class by the teacher if no action is taken.
-
Parents are responsible to
obtain all appropriate texts, syllabuses, and other materials. Parents must review with their students the requirements of
each class syllabus.
-
Parents are expected to team-teach
with the teacher during non-EXCEL class days. This includes teaching, monitoring,
and ensuring that students complete all work required by the EXCEL teacher.
-
Parents must realize the commitment of time and money these
classes demand. Student attendance and completion of assignment work is not
optional. Parents are responsible for checking work, as required, and seeing that
homework has met the standards set by the teacher. Failure to attend class or
to complete homework assignments is grounds for expulsion from EXCEL classes.
-
Parents must maintain good
communication with teachers, the financial coordinator, and administration.
-
Our teachers are independent
contractors with whom each family is making an agreement. Each family is expected
to fulfill with integrity its financial obligation to the teacher for the entire term of the course in which the student is enrolled. Prompt payment of tuition is expected.
-
Parents are required to volunteer
in some capacity during the academic year. This organization is volunteer driven
and cannot exist unless each family does its part.
- Parents are expected to support the administration and teachers of EXCEL. If differences arise, those differences should be directed to the person directly affected. The administration supports the teachers who have agreed to offer classes under the
umbrella of EXCEL.
